The lounge overlooks our in-house pond&garden making for a beautiful& relaxing area. Locals also come to enjoy the cafe& many events that we have such as crafts, breakfast events and occasionally, yoga. We hope our guests will be able to connect with locals and other guests from around the world.
Step inside our traditional Japanese room that sleeps up to 2 people. Complete with tatami and the traditional wood work this suite is beautiful and spacious. This room has no private toilet and bath.
Our hostel has several areas that are available to our guests. On the first floor of our building we have a cafe and bar, lounge that overlooks a pond and mini gym that guests may use. While we do not have a public kitchen, you are allowed to bring outside food into the hostel and eat in the lounge area.
ZEN Hostel has a cafe and bar that is open to the public. This gives our guests an opportunity to mingle and meet with locals. Our public spaces for our guests also gives them a chance to become acquainted with one another. We hope that our open and relaxed environment encourages people to make new friends from all over the world.
ZEN Hostel is conveniently located by Yudanaka Station. We are also close to the famous snow monkey park about 5 to 10 minutes away by car. Shiga Kogen is a great place for hiking,cycling and winter sports and is also close to our hostel.The surrounding neighborhood has several restaurants that serve delicious food and local beer.
ZEN Hostel provides free parking on a first come first serve basis at the back entrance of our building. Yudanaka Station is just a 5 minute walk from ZEN. From the station you can take buses to Shiga Kogen and the monkey park as well as take the train into Nagano city.
The hostel is equipped with free wifi throughout the building, a TV and projection screen, mini gym and cafe and bar. Our guests will also be provided with bed sheets for free of charge. We have electronic appliance adapters for almost anywhere in the world for guests to use as well. While our facility does not have a hot spring available, there are several close by that our guests can use, including one of the most famous in Japan, Yorozuya.")

He named the hot spring “water of longevity.”
Since then the village has flourished and attracted many people with its continuously springing out hot water in the precincts.
It is a room facing the river and enjoying the courtyard. There is a heating facility, but there is no air conditioning. No bath / rest room.
Size: 10 tatami
The room comes with breakfast, cooked carefully with ingredients from local mountains and rivers.
Toilet and bath are shared.
Our hot spring bath, separate for men and women, is known to relieve nerve pain, muscle pain, stiff joint, frozen shoulder, and to provide soothing effect and overall health enhancement.
Equipment includes Wi-Fi, safe, TV, refrigerator, wash basin, telephone, hot water dispenser and air conditioner.
Amenities include towels, bath towel, tooth brush and yukata.
Scenic spots close by are as follows:
Shigakogen Highlands is where you can enjoy hiking in spring, summer, autumn, and skiing in winter. (22 minutes’ drive).
Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park is where you can spot monkeys enjoying the hot springs! (12 minutes’ drive)
Zenkoji Temple is known to enshrine the first Buddha statue of Japan that came from India through Korea. It has 1400 years’ history. (1 hour drive)
For transportation, from Tokyo Station, take Hokuriku-Shinkansen Hakutaka toward Kanazawa and get off at Nagano Station, then take Nagano Dentetsu Train to Yutanaka Station, and take taxi for 6 minutes to Yamazakiya Ryokan.

A bathing tax of 150 yen per person will be charged separately.
From early November to late March there will be additional heating fee of 550 yen per room.
Dinner is served at the hotel.
If you wish, please make a reservation 2 days in advance.
