It is ours for 20 years, loaned by Damien Hirst who has a fondness for this beautiful North Devon area, and who now lives locally. Damien has a harbour side wine bar/restaurant offering great food and the best of views too. Relax with a coffee and watch the activity of the sailing enthusiasts working on their crafts. Ilfracombe's aquarium is also a unique spot to enjoy a coffee on the balcony and all the comings and goings of The Oldenburg Ship on it's daily trips to Lundy Island. If island life appeals, perhaps you may be tempted too, or take a trip along the stunning coastline in one of the local boats. Don't miss out if you enjoy fishing, you can fish from The Quay or from the well equipped vessels manned by experienced local fishermen. Appliances include a fridge, dishwasher, oven, gas hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and a coffee machine. There is also a good supply of pots, pans, cutlery and crockery (including children’s). The washing machine is found in the separate laundry room. BEDROOMS MELDON HOUSE has two very spacious and luxurious bedrooms, similar to that of a boutique hotel. Both have comfortable chairs and drinks table with a bay window outlook. Bedroom 1: A large zip-link double bed that can be made into twin beds on request. Ilfracombe Harbour and Fore Street are within a 5 minute walk, and offer a selection of excellent restaurants, including a Michelin starred restaurant. On The Rocks has two bedrooms (one with double bed, one with twin beds) and can comfortably sleep four adults, with room for a travel cot (provided, along with high chair) in either bedroom if needed. Both the master bedroom and the living room have large sash windows with fantastic views out to sea. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating and a Smart TV, with BBC, ITV and Channel 4 iPlayer, NetFlix, Amazon on Demand etc. There is also a DVD player, with a good selection of DVDs, books and games. The living room adjoins a well equipped kitchen area (including washer-dryer), with a dining table which can comfortably seat 4-5. Free Wi-Fi is also provided. There is an allocated parking space at the rear of the terrace, where the communal entrance is located. However, you may not need to move your car, as there is so much within walking distance. There are a number of great pubs and restaurants, including the newly awarded Michelin star restaurant, Thomas Carr at the Olive Room (a small restaurant, so book early to avoid disappointment). There are plenty of local shops, including an excellent local butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer as well as several bakers. There are beautiful coves and cliff top walks, art galleries, cinema and theatre, and of course, Damien Hirst’s gallery and sculpture “Verity” at the end of the harbour wall. Further afield, Woolacombe Beach, Croyde and Saunton Sands are all within a 15 minute drive - and Exmoor and the Tarka Trail are on the doorstep. It is a fantastic area to explore. Changeover day is generally Saturday but may be negotiated out of peak season. Arrival time is usually after 4pm and departure is by 10am although this may be flexible when discussed with our Housekeeper. Short breaks (minimum of 3 days) out of peak season can be arranged. Note: The rear entrance is sunny and welcoming, however, there are some steps leading down from the car park to the ground floor entrance, and some stairs internally to the second floor, so it may not be suitable for people with mobility issues.
